Brand in B2B: What’s really going on?

Hello, and welcome to summer.

We’re running a short survey this month called Where Does Brand Break Down in B2B? – and we’d love your input.

Yes, we’ve got our own views on where things go wrong (we’re consultants, we always have a view). But those views are worth nothing if they don’t match the reality inside your business. The real value comes from understanding what you’re up against, so we can create better, more effective brand solutions that actually work in your world.

The survey’s short. It’s anonymous. And we’ll be sharing the results in the coming weeks. We’re also posting it on LinkedIn, so if you know others who’ve got thoughts, feel free to pass it on.

Thanks in advance for taking the time. We really appreciate it.

The podcast is back (and now we’re on camera)

That’s right, The Good Brand Podcast is back, and this time we’ve stuck ourselves on YouTube too.

If you’ve ever thought, “I wish I could watch three people waffle about B2B branding,” then you’re in luck. Jules, Stewart and I are back in the studio talking all things B2B, brand, culture and comms – with the usual mix of strong opinions, personal gripes, and self-awareness.

New episode live now.

Why most agency “strategy” isn’t strategy at all

I wrote a blog piece after a conversation with Stewart about a word that’s been so overused it’s lost all meaning: strategy.

Everyone claims to do it. Most don’t. What they’re actually doing is synthesis—smartly shaping what’s already there. There’s nothing wrong with that (when done well, it’s valuable). But let’s stop pretending it’s something else.

If you’ve ever wondered why a lot of ‘strategy’ sounds suspiciously like good account management, this one might be for you.
