Gordon and MacPhail, an independent, family-owned company, sought to establish a new distillery in Speyside, aiming to create a celebrated international single malt Scotch whisky. Our work focused on four key areas to bring their vision to life:

1. What’s in a Name?

We selected “The Cairn” as the distillery’s name, reflecting its location at the gateway to the Cairngorms and its aspiration to become a landmark of discovery and excellence.

2. Early Stakeholder Engagement

Engaging with legal teams, project managers, shareholders, and family members from the outset ensured alignment and timely approvals, facilitating smooth project execution.

3. Building Solid Foundations

We emphasized vision and attitude over mere uniqueness, selecting materials and partners that embodied the brand’s commitment to modern Scottish excellence.

4. Flexibility, Consistency, and Longevity

Collaborating with architects, designers, and producers, we developed a suite of core master assets designed for adaptability and enduring brand consistency across all channels.

The result is a brand that encapsulates the family’s vision, poised to make a significant impact in the whisky industry.
